playboy gets a makeover

I came across this fabulous post by Alex Cornell, a design contributer at ISO50. Alex is also currently getting his master's in design at the Academy of Art. For one of his class projects he was asked to reinvigorate a brand that was "dead, dying or defunct." Alex chose to re-brand Playboy for his assignment because he felt the overall perception of the brand has decayed through the years.

You can read more about the actual assignment and process at Alex's post on ISO50, but I'd like to show off his amazing designs. They are so classy and beautiful! These are some of the coolest designs that I've seen in a while...

Above is Alex's final design. I love the slogan, "Read it for the articles." Yeah, sure...
Alex originally played around with the idea of this sleek fox devouring a little bunny, the way men devour the women of Playboy, but he didn't get the best reception from those he showed it too. He decided to just stick with the bow-tie in his final design.
I love how Alex was able to update and re-brand Playboy while still keeping in sync with the very classic Playboy bunny.
How perfect are these business cards?

I wonder what Hef would have to say about this?
