"the one charm of the past is that it is the past"

On my quest to not only collect more books, but also read more books, I can now officially cross off The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. It definitely wasn't my favorite story line of all time, but worth reading none the less.

I was very surprised to learn that this was Oscar Wilde's only published book because it was filled with some truly wonderful quotes. Quotes are kind of my thing, so here is a collection from  The Picture of Dorian Gray that stood out:

"Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope."

"There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

"I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be the one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvellous to us."

"My heart shall never be under the microscope."

"There is no doubt that genius lasts longer than beauty."

"Those who are faithful know only the trivial side of love: It is the faithless who know love's tragedies."

"live! Live the wonderful life that is in you! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing."

"The only thing one never regrets are one's mistakes."

"Don't be afraid. There are exquisite things in store for you. This is merely the beginning."

"Experience was of no ethical value. It was merely the name men gave to their mistakes."

"The one charm of the past is that it is the past."

"Women love is for our defects. If we have enough of them they will forgive us everything, even our intellects."

"When a woman marries again it is because she detested her first husband. When a man marries again, it is because he adored his first wife. Women try their luck; men risk theirs."

Now, I'm on to Emma by Jane Austin.
